halloween festivities

i FINALLY got to go to the pumpkin patch, as a chaperone for Faith's field trip. i was so stoked!!! of course, the first thing my daughter decides to do when we get there: step into the HUGEST, most-rotten, stinky pumpkin there!!! it was very nasty. yes. but not on purpose. then the sun came out and my two girls (whom i was in charge of keeping an eye on) got over the pumpkin picking pretty quickly. i was glad i got to experience Aloun farms. maybe next year there will be bigger pumpkins that aren't too rotten yet. maybe we'll go earlier in the season to get first dibs.
then Faith had a Halloween party for school. there were various activities: face painting, lei-making, mask-making, and (of course) doughnuts on a string -- run by yours truly. it was a hit.
on Halloween, we went trick-or-treating in Laie and had a fun time. Faith was a ballerina and Malik was a pirate. i made Malik's costume just by cutting up some old clothes. Angela stayed in Kahuku to pass out candy. Faith could've kept on going FOREVER, and was disappointed when we had to head home. Malik wouldn't really say "trick-or-treat", but he would walk up to people with the candy and hold his bag open expectantly. he got what he wanted every time. i dressed up as a darn cute pumpkin (thanks, Emily), but there's no pictures of me. and Doug went as himself, although he did say that he was actually an Argentine/ian surfer (whatever). we ended (and began) the night at aunty Kapewa and uncle Buddy's house, where i let the kids enjoy a candy of their choice before calling it a night. aunty and uncle had some insane, awesomely carved pumpkins at their house!!! scary ones! wish i got a picture. and Ezra was an indian. overall, it was a fun time! next year i want to have a theme for the family's HOMEMADE costumes.

jess -- i was already embarrassed at not having "chaperoned" her to prevent the whole incident in the first place. i should've got a picture, though. i was thinking the same thing. then everyone could see just how nasty it was. the insides were gray. it smelled like sulfur. uckk!
