on saturday evening, we headed down to waikiki yacht club and met up with some friends. bruce and nora slayden have a yacht and they have sailed all over the world. doug grew up with their kids. the skipper is travis, from south africa and his wife is ana, from argentina -- they have been shipmates with the slaydens for the past three years. the slaydens are here in hawaii for 3 months and they invited us over for dinner. we had some steak, potatoes, tomato and mozzarella salad, corn on the cob - all freshly prepared on the grill. the boat is amazing - there are five cabins, a washer and dryer, dishwasher, toilets and showers, full kitchen, a tv bigger than ours {the kids watched bits of 'kung fu panda' and 'surf's up'} complete with a bose surround sound system -- the works! the kids had a blast playing with pickles, their dog.
the ambiance was serene. we watched the sunset and once it got dark, the city lights were so pretty. it was enjoyable to have dinner and catch up; hearing about their travels and various cultures they've had the opportunity to experience. they say their favorite place so far has been alaska - fresh caught crab, jumbo prawns, halibut, and salmon!! they're gonna be heading over to kaneohe sandbar later next week and invited us to join them - we're looking forward to that! doug and the kids have never been. it was a memorable and enjoyable evening -- thank you, slaydens!
