on a little Sunday stroll today, i discovered one of these gems in my backyard. don't know
how i missed it before. i happened to see a brown, round nut in the grass and recognized it
immediately. then i looked up. it's a HUGE macadamia nut tree. which means, i have
access to macadamia nuts all year round. it reminds me of my childhood days on the
big island, at grandma's house, crackin' open the mac nuts with the hammer and eating
them til we could eat no more. i miss those macadamia-filled-burlap days.

oh how delicious and cool! we have so many plants in my backyard that we could be taking advantage of and dont because we are lazy and it seems like such a waste! i need to learn more about different kinds of herbs and then i can get on it, but a mac nut tree- how cool! and i didnt know you grew up on the big island- awesome.
